Ioannis Sarakinos

Ioannis is our managing partner.

Born and raised in Athens, he attended the 1st General High School (Lyceum) of Halandri. He earned two bachelor degrees in law (LL.B.), one from the University of Greenwich in London, UK and the other from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He then earned a Masters degree (LL.M.) in Banking Law & Financial Regulation from the London School of Economics & Political Science. He approached his studies by examining each topic as an avid researcher, honing the excellent research skills he possesses today.

After completing his studies in law, Ioannis undertook the 18th month training contract at a one of the best, at the time, law firm in Athens – Greece. During his training contract, Ioannis gained a first glimpse of financial services and business law in practice.

In April 2012, immediately after completing his 18th month training contract, Ioannis joined the Athens Bar Association. Around this time, Ioannis began his tenure, as an Attorney-at-Law, at a top-tier international Greek law firm, specialising in complex capital markets legal issues (i.e. listing of companies to stock exchanges, setting off stock exchange transactions), banking law and data protection issues. At that same year, he was appointed as a BoD member of a governmental body of a Municipality in Athens. This role marked his first venture into practicing public/administrative law.

His diverse legal expertise, combined with his research-driven approach to every legal area he encountered, has equipped Ioannis with the ability to advise a broad clientele base, ranging from private individuals and commercial companies to governmental entities. Leveraging this capability, he founded Sarakinos Law in 2015.

Since 2017, Ioannis has been a keynote speaker/instructor/trainer in open and in-house training to private and public sector employees seminars. Up to this date, Ioannis has delivered more than 500 hours of training seminars on the practical applicability of public procurement laws (an area in which Ioannis is a Certified Public Tenders Participations Procedures Executive through the accredited by the Hellenic Accreditation System (E.SY.D.) certification procedure, in accordance with the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17024:2012 international standard) and on the regulatory compliance of businesses as well as governmental organisations with all their legal obligations, especially whistleblowing, violence and harassment in employment – bullying and mobbing, data (personal and digital), prevention and suppression of money laundering and terrorist financing (AML/CFT), managing intellectual property rights and the transfer of technology, internal audit. In the area of regulatory compliance, Ioannis is a Certified AI Ethics & Governance Officer from the University of the Aegean. Due to his extensive background in teaching professionals, Ioannis has been recently awarded a national certificate in teaching law and public contracts from the Hellenic National Centre for Public Administration & Local Government (EKDDA) and the Hellenic Ministry of Education.

Outside his legal profession, Ioannis has varied interests. From 1999 to 2012, he passionately pursued tennis, achieving notable rankings in various open tennis tournaments and a ranking within the top 100 of the Greek National Tennis league (April 2009). Over the last few years, although at a less competitive level, he still enjoys tennis. He is also a collector of crystals’, he enjoys creating lists (a self-invented game shared with friends and clients) and he is currently penning a history book aimed at providing a concise, in chronological order, account of major events in world history.

He is fluent in Greek, English and French.
